Health and Safety policy
Removals Harringay Health and Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out how Removals Harringay manages the safety and wellbeing of employees, customers, contractors and members of the public while delivering professional removal services. Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, damage to property and harm to the environment during all moving and handling activities.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
Removals Harringay is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety across all aspects of our work, including house removals, office moves, packing, loading, transport and unloading. We aim to provide a safe working environment and to continually improve our safety performance through monitoring, training and communication.
Management assumes overall responsibility for ensuring that appropriate procedures and resources are in place so that health and safety requirements are identified, understood and complied with by the entire team.
Responsibilities and Accountability
Health and safety is a shared responsibility. Every individual working for or with Removals Harringay has a duty to safeguard their own safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Management is responsible for
Setting clear health and safety standards and objectives appropriate for our removals operations.
Ensuring that risk assessments are carried out, regularly reviewed and that control measures are implemented and monitored.
Providing adequate information, instruction, supervision and training to all employees and contractors.
Ensuring safe systems of work for lifting, carrying, driving, loading, unloading and use of equipment.
Allocating sufficient resources, including time and equipment, to maintain safe working conditions.
Employees and contractors are responsible for
Working safely and following all safety instructions, procedures and training.
Using equipment correctly and reporting any defects or concerns immediately.
Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment where required.
Reporting accidents, near misses, hazards and unsafe practices without delay.
Cooperating with all health and safety measures put in place by Removals Harringay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We conduct risk assessments covering typical moving and handling activities across our service area, including domestic and commercial removals. These assessments identify hazards such as manual handling risks, slips and trips, falls from vehicles, traffic risks, and damage to property or belongings.
Where hazards are identified, we implement practical control measures, for example
Planning access routes and parking arrangements in advance to minimise vehicle and pedestrian risk.
Using appropriate lifting techniques and team lifting for heavy or awkward items.
Utilising trolleys, dollies and other handling aids where suitable.
Ensuring vehicles are stable and secure before loading or unloading.
Securing loads within vehicles to prevent movement while in transit.
Maintaining clear walkways and controlling trip hazards such as loose packaging materials.
These safe working practices are reviewed regularly to reflect changes in our services, equipment, or operating locations.
Training, Competence and Supervision
Removals Harringay recognises that competent, well trained staff are essential to safe removal operations. We provide initial and ongoing training covering
Manual handling techniques specific to removal work.
Safe use of removal vehicles and equipment.
Hazard awareness in residential and commercial properties.
Emergency procedures, including first aid arrangements and incident reporting.
New employees receive induction training that includes our Health and Safety Policy and expectations. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for reinforcing safe practices on site and intervening whenever unsafe behaviour or conditions are observed.
Vehicles, Equipment and Maintenance
Our vehicles and equipment are critical to both service quality and safety. Removals Harringay ensures that
Removal vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained to a safe and roadworthy standard.
Loading ramps, tail lifts and other lifting aids are used correctly and inspected at appropriate intervals.
Furniture blankets, straps and protective materials are in good condition and used to secure and protect loads.
Defective equipment is removed from service immediately and only returned once it has been repaired or replaced.
Customer and Public Safety
We take reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and members of the public while we are working at homes, offices or other premises. Measures can include
Agreeing safe access points and clearly identifying working areas.
Keeping routes clear and, where necessary, using temporary barriers or warning signs.
Handling customer belongings with care to prevent damage and avoid creating hazards.
Coordinating vehicle movements to reduce risk to pedestrians and other road users.
Our teams are instructed to act courteously and professionally, to communicate clearly with customers, and to bring any safety concerns to the attention of the person in charge on site.
Reporting, Investigating and Learning from Incidents
All accidents, near misses, damage incidents and health and safety concerns must be reported promptly to management. We record and investigate these events to understand the causes and identify improvements to prevent recurrence.
Where appropriate, we will review relevant risk assessments, amend procedures and share lessons learned with employees and contractors. We encourage open reporting and do not tolerate victimisation of anyone who raises a genuine safety concern.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Removals Harringay is committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance. We monitor compliance with this policy through supervision, inspections, feedback from staff and customers, and periodic management reviews.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice, our services or operating locations. The current version is made available to all employees and can be provided to customers and other interested parties on request.
Policy Statement
By implementing this Health and Safety Policy, Removals Harringay seeks to ensure that every removal, whether domestic or commercial, is carried out as safely and responsibly as possible. Everyone involved in our removals operations is expected to support and adhere to this policy so that we can deliver reliable and safe moving services throughout the areas we serve.
